Some Questions for Current NVCA Parents

The following questions are offered respectfully and in good faith. They arise from parental experience and community observations and are intended to invite transparency and informed discussion.

They are not accusations. They are questions parents may reasonably ask when entrusting a school with their children’s education, safety, and well-being.

Cameras and Student Privacy

  • Are parents informed whether security cameras are installed in or near high school restrooms, locker rooms, or other sensitive areas?
  • If so, where are those cameras located, and what safeguards prevent inappropriate monitoring?
  • Who has access to recorded footage, and under what circumstances?
  • Under what conditions may footage be reviewed or used in student investigations?
  • Are parents notified when footage involving their child is reviewed or relied upon in disciplinary or investigatory decisions?
  • Do students and teachers share restrooms?

Monitoring of Student–Parent Communications

  • When students use school facilities to call a parent, what expectations of privacy apply?
  • Are administrative staff permitted to overhear or monitor student–parent phone calls?
  • What policies govern the documentation or later characterization of those conversations?
  • How does the school ensure that a student seeking parental support while distressed is protected rather than penalized?

Searches and Drug Testing of Minors

  • Are parents informed that drug-sniffing dogs may be brought onto campus?
  • What procedures follow an alert involving a student’s belongings?
  • Are parents notified before a minor is subjected to:
    • A bag or locker search
    • A urine drug test
    • A cheek swab or similar testing
  • Are parents permitted or required to be present during testing?
  • What training and safeguards are in place to ensure such procedures are age-appropriate, proportionate, and respectful?

Parents may reasonably ask whether invasive testing without parental presence or prior notice aligns with best practices and safeguarding standards.

Consistency With the School’s Statement of Faith

NVCA’s Statement of Faith outlines behavioral and moral expectations for students and families.

Parents may reasonably ask:

  • How are those standards applied consistently and pastorally?
  • How does the school distinguish between discipline, pastoral care, and discretionary enforcement?
  • How are students and families guided when questions of interpretation arise?
  • What safeguards ensure that standards are applied fairly across students and circumstances?

Financial Stewardship and Safety Priorities

  • How are capital and safety priorities evaluated and approved?
  • How are parents informed about decisions involving significant expenditures?
  • Why doesn't the school have updated and safe vans for sports?
  • Was the video wall in the gym necessary?
  • What process ensures that student safety needs are prioritized alongside facility and technology upgrades?
  • How does the school assess and communicate financial tradeoffs to families?

Responsiveness to Parents

  • What is the expected response time when parents raise concerns involving student welfare?
  • What escalation pathways exist if concerns go unanswered?
  • How does the school ensure that parental advocacy is received as partnership rather than framed as misalignment?
  • What safeguards exist to ensure concerns are reviewed rather than dismissed?

Why These Questions Matter

Parents entrust schools not only with education, but with judgment, care, and discretion.

Transparency builds trust.

Silence erodes it.

We believe parents deserve clear answers to these questions so they can make informed decisions about their children’s education and well-being at North Valley Christian Academy.

Good-Faith Notice
